Did you know you can use the end piece of your romaine lettuce to grow more romaine lettuce? Yes it is true and it works.
A work colleague told me all about this. She said she found several posting on Pinterest.com about how to re-grow. I did a little research and decided to try it.
All you have to do is take the end of Romaine lettuce and place it in a bowl with a ½ inch of water, just enough water to cover the bottom part of the Romaine end. Change out the water every day and that's it!
Within a day I had already noticed the center part growing back, and within a week it grew back almost five inches. In about two weeks you should have a full grown head of Romaine lettuce.
In addition I have read that you can do the same thing for celery. I have not tried it on celery but if you do let me know how it turns out.
* Update: It has been two weeks since I started the process of re-growing the Romaine lettuce. The Romaine not big enough to make a salad, but overall it grew 8 inches. The lettuce grew only 2 inches in this past week. So it is not growing back as fast as it did on the first week. But I still have some more new lettuce, so stay tuned on progress.
