PHOENIX - I am always showing you how to save money, but what if I show you how you can save money to donate food for folks who need the help.

First, how is your food donation going to help? Your donations will be given to St. Mary's and United Food banks. This will help feed the one in five Arizonans and one in four kids who are living in poverty.

Some of the items needed for donations are food and cash. You can add $1 to your food bills when checking out at Fry's. Or donate food items that are non perishable and will also give the most nutrition for your buck. For example, soy milk sold in a carton, oatmeal, peanut butter, canned veggies or fruit, beans and granola bars.

Now how can you save? I did some shopping and found that buying the store brands will give us the biggest savings. The generic Kroger brand of granola bars cost $1.76. Compare that to $2.95 for the brand name. In some cases, you can save on brand names if you can find them on sale and with a coupon.

We found Campbell’s soup on sale for $.90 each and I found a coupon to with it. You get $.50 off when you buy three cans of Campbell’s soup. That brings that soup price to almost $.74 per can. When it came to peanut butter generic was less expensive.

These are just a few ideas to help save money on food to donate to people who are in need. I only checked on what Fry's has to offer since we are partnering with them for the 100-Ton Food Drive . If you don’t have the money to help, maybe take a look and see what food items you may have at home that you won’t use and can donate. Every little bit helps.
