I love free, so public libraries sing music to my ears because they're all about free. Here are some amazing free things you can do with your Phoenix Public Library card.
Do you want to go to the Phoenix Zoo, Desert Botanical Garden or the Heard Museum but don’t have a lot of cash?
Now you can check into those places for free. This awesome program is called Culture Pass and you can pick up one pass that admits two adults for free into these cultural institutions and arts at your local participating library.
Check your local library to see if they participate in the Cultural Pass program. You can find them in libraries all over the Valley. Each participating library has a kiosk located inside the library and those kiosks hold Culture Passes which gives free admission into these museums, cultural institutions, and to a lot of art and cultural organizations in Valley. If you don’t see the pass that you want, it usually means it's checked out. The passes may be checked out for seven days. You can’t put a hold on these passes. They are on a first come first serve basis.
You don’t need money to check out these passes because it is totally free. All you have to have is a library card and guess what, that is free too! If you don’t have a library card, don’t worry it is easy and free to sign up. Just go to your local library and bring your ID to sign up for a free card.
Next on my favorite list of library freebies is Project Nook.
Project Nook is a program that allows anyone with a Phoenix library card to check out a Nook for up to three weeks when they are available. If the libraries have the Nooks in stock, you can check them out, but you cannot put a hold on or reserve them. Make sure to return the Nook on time like with anything you borrow from the library or you will be fined.
You can also download books to read on the Nook for free using the Phoenix Libraries eBooks or Digital Media section on their website .
Do keep in mind that anyone can download eBooks and Digital Media for free to use on their own book readers or smartphones too. Currently only seven Phoenix libraries have the Nooks available to borrow. Each location has several Nooks to lend out.
Here is a list of the libraries that are currently participating:
