The Nordic Ware Rice Cooker is supposed to let you cook perfect rice, pasta and veggies in the microwave in minutes.
But will it work? Let me try it before you buy it.
The cooker comes with the bowl, basket and lid and the instructions are really easy.
We tried it out several times cooking white and brown rice, pasta and veggies.
We only needed to use the basket for the veggies and it was as simple as pouring water in the cooker, putting the veggies in the basket, securing the lid and closing the vent holes.
We let it cook in the microwave for three minutes and let it sit for another three minutes.
We got perfect steamed veggies in less than 10 minutes, not a real time saver, but it worked.
We used a similar process for the pasta, but this time we didn't use the basket.
Our pasta was well done in less than 15 minutes.
Again, we didn't really save time on this one, but we didn't have to keep stirring the pasta like you normally do when you cook it on the stove.
As for the rice, our white rice came out perfect in 15 minutes microwaved on a medium setting.
That's very impressive and it saved us about 10 minutes.
The brown rice was a different story.
We followed the instructions and cooked the rice for about 20 minutes and let it sit for five.
The rice turned out watery and it was definitely not something I’d serve.
So we tried it again, this time letting it cook for an additional five minutes. It wasn’t watery, instead it was hard.
The Nordic Ware Rice Maker cost us $8.00 at Target .
Even though it did eventually cook some things, it didn't save us any time or money. I give it a thumbs down.
