Free tax preparation available with Turbo Tax, H&R Block if you qualify

PHOENIX - "Free" is a word we like to hear, if something really is free.

The ABC15 Investigators have found there is a free way to use popular tax preparation software, if you qualify.

There are 15 tax software services listed on the Internal Revenue Service website.

They include the big tax preparations software names like Turbo Tax and H&R Block , but you have to meet certain requirements.

Generally, your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) needs to be $57,000 or less and your age 52 or younger.

There are exceptions -- with Turbo Tax , your AGI needs to be $31,000 or less unless you're active military.

Tax Slayer is free if you're 25 years old or younger.

With 1040now.net , you qualify if you're 72 years old or younger, and with  Free1040taxreturn , you have to make $42,000 AGI or less.

This year, some of the sites even offer free state e-filing, but not all, so expect a fee for that with some services.

The IRS warns that you start your return from their site, or you may be charged a fee or asked to buy additional products and services.
