PHOENIX - With a down economy the last couple of years, a lot of people have sought help from debt management plans.

One class action lawsuit claims Genus Credit Counseling and American Financial Solutions didn't give clients what was promised.

The suit alleges "false and misleading statements" about debt management plans.

Scott Hardy with Topclassactions.com says some customers allege they didn't get what they paid for.

"People went ahead and called them up thinking that they can help manage their debt and work with their credit card company to lower the debt they have, when in fact all they did was get sent to collections," Hardy says.

The suit also claims the non-profit entities charged fees which were funneled to for-profit entities.

Both Genus Credit Counseling and American Financial Solutions deny they did anything wrong and say they acted lawfully at all times.

You have until May 19th to submit a claim for your part of the 4 million dollar settlement.

Another class action suit involves 24 Hour Fitness.

"The settlement includes all members that canceled the membership, submitted the cancellation in writing and were still charged dues after their cancellation request," Hardy says.

The dues were taken out of accounts tied to automatic electronic payments.

If this happened to you, you can submit a claim by June 18th and if you qualify, receive either 20 dollars, or a 3-month club membership.

24 Hour Fitness has denied all liability and says it has acted lawfully.
