Spices and the like may help you fight arthritis, flu, infections, and anxiety!

It's a suggestion from Dr. Clark Hansen who practices naturopathic medicine so you can feel better naturally.

1) Tumeric (Curcumin), a spice for pain

A recent new study shows the Indian spice provides long term pain relief for arthritis suffers. Efficacy and safety of Meriva, a curcumin-phosphatidylcholine complex, during extended administration in osteoarthritis patients.

Curcumin is the active pigmented compound that gives the spice turmeric its yellow color. Previous research has shown that it has a surprisingly broad array of anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-mutagenic, antibiotic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-amyloid, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Over the last couple of years, curcumin has been linked to a range of health benefits, including potential protection against prostate cancer.

2) Cranberries Prevent Repeat Bladder Infections

While it's been folk advice for years, a new study appears to confirm what many women think they already know--drinking as little as 2 ounces of cranberry juice per day can reduce the chance of getting repeated urinary tract infections, according to a study in the British Medical Journal.

In the US alone, 11 million women each year are given antibiotics for urinary tract infections (UTI). Drinking a little Cranberry juice every day could prevent as many as 2 million UTI's and save as much as 250 million dollars in health care costs every year in the US.

3) Elderberry Stops Influenza A & B Fast!

In a double blind clinical trial on patients infected with the influenza virus, 90 percent of the group taking Elderberry extract recovered completely from the fever, chills, body aches, and cough twice as fast as the group receiving the placebo (within 3 days rather than 7).

Elderberry disarms viruses by binding to them and preventing them from getting into the body. Flavonoids found in the berries are thought to coat the virus and inhibit the action of an enzyme called neuraminidase that otherwise would break down the cell wall membrane and allow the virus to spread. Elderberry also enhances immunity by increasing the production of special white blood cells that fight viruses and acts as a potent antioxidant.

4) Wild Yams for PMS, Panic Attacks and Brain Trauma

The wild yam (Dioscorea villosa), contains the active hormonal building blocks that can be used to make natural progesterone. New studies indicate that Progesterone may be one of nature's most potent remedies for the prevention and treatment anxiety and depression and even post traumatic brain injuries.

Progesterone Calms the Nervous System to prevent PMS as well as Panic Attacks by activating GABA, the same neurohormone that is believed to be affected the anti-anxiety drug Xanax.
Progesterone also stimulates regeneration of brain neurons and the myelin sheaths around nerves. It is now being used to prevent brain damage after auto accidents and other brain traumas.

5) Take Multivitamins for longer life

The cells of multivitamin users may have a younger biological age than cells from non-users, according to new research from the US.

Researchers from National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences recently discovered that the length of telomere DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes. shorten as cells replicate and age and that multivitamins may prevent telomere shortening by reducing oxidative damage and chronic inflammation.

Previous studies have reported that telomeres are highly susceptible to oxidative damage, which can be prevented by anti-oxidant vitamins like vitamin C and E.

6) Grapes may be the Fountain of Youth

Concord grapes are a dark-purple variety, native to North America, that are used widely in juice and wine production. Its juice has been shown to lower blood pressure and daily consumption has been shown to greatly extend the life-span of animals.

Resveratrol, an ingredient in the skin of red grapes, which has been credited with red wine's ability to lower the risk of heart disease and cancer, has been found to be the most potent anti-aging booster ever discovered.

Resveretrol extended the life span of yeast cells by up to 80 percent. Human cells seemed to benefit, too. Those treated with Resveretrol enjoyed long lives in laboratory dishes even after being exposed to ionizing radiation, which damages DNA and usually shortens a cell's lifespan.

Researchers from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine recently found that a powerful compound found in Grape Seeds kills 76% of leukemia cancer cells in a test tube within 24 hours without harming healthy white blood cells that were also placed in the test tubes.

Grape seed bioflavonoids known as proanthocyanidins, have been found to kill several different types of cancer including skin, breast, colon, lung, stomach, and prostate cancers.
