PHOENIX - Despite high gas prices and rising airfares, 49 percent of Americans surveyed are planning a summer getaway, according to Yahoo! Travel.

So if you're getting out of dodge, here are a few things to consider to take the stress out of your vacation.

First, make sure you plan ahead. Nothing creates stress faster than not having a plan. This includes reservations, packing, and daily activities.

Second, make sure you create a vacation budget. Your trip can easily get spoiled if you end up spending too much, or worse yet, running out of money.

If you are traveling with kids, put together a travel bag (or as ABC15's Connie Colla calls it, "A keep mommy sane bag"). This should include drinks, snacks, and fun things to do so they stay occupied.

Finally, leave the world behind you. When I say world, I mean work. Focus on spending time with your family and relaxing. You can worry about work once your vacation is over.

And if you need someone to go with you and remind you of these tips, feel free to bring me along!
