PHOENIX - Whether you're a native or new to Arizona, you already know we live in a beautiful and fascinating state.

Each Thursday, we're spotlighting a local hotel or resort that is a must-check-out destination.

Next time you feel the need for a road trip, staycation or pampering, go no further than the Travel section of ABC15.com . Here is this week's profile:

This week's getaway will let you celebrate the 4th of July in town, in luxury and at a great price.

The Royal Palms Resort and Spa is offering $150 in resort credit if you stay two or more nights this Independence Day weekend with room rates starting at just $199 per night. The offer is valid June 26 through July 10.

Nestled in the shadow of Camelback Mountain, the Royal Palms Resort and Spa is "an elegant hideaway with the rustic splendor of a Mediterranean Villa."

The resort features 119 guest rooms, casitas and villas set on a historic property. It is one of just two Arizona hotels to be a member of the Historic Hotels of America National Trust for Historic Preservation, according to the property's website .

It was originally built in 1929 as a summer retreat for Cunard Steamship executive Delos Cooke, opened to the public as an inn in 1948 and underwent a multimillion dollar restoration, re-opening in 1997. The resort features a 250-year-old fountain in the circular front drive. Many of the 900 palm trees on the property were imported from Egypt.

Room amenities include a private balcony or patio, hand crafted artifacts, custom furnishings, along with a plush pillow top mattress, in room safe, minibar, WiFi, bathrobes and slippers, spa body and hair care products and 24-hour room service.

Beat the heat poolside with a cocktail, pamper yourself with a spa treatment and dine on delicious dishes.

A $28 daily service fee covers things like gratuities, daily use of the fitness center and Alvadora spa facilities, valet parking, twice daily housekeeping services, use of the business center, and daily newspaper. Check-in is 4 p.m. and check-out is 12 noon.

While there's plenty to do in the vicinity, you may find you just want to hang around the Royal Palms Resort and Spa where you can relax with indulgent spa treatments and try out the new summer menu at T. Cook's.

Alvadora Spa provides an array of services to indulge the senses. They run the gamut of spa treatments, some including lunch or dinner, to their four hour Mediterranean Experience that includes lunch, a body wrap, manicure and pedicure.

T. Cook's restaurant serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner featuring seasonal dishes, fire-roasted specialties and elegant surroundings. T. Cook's flavor is Mediterranean.

For a weekend -- or week long -- getaway without spending a lot of time and money on travel, make the Royal Palms Resort and Spa your destination. Be sure to check out all the package specials they have to offer.
