WILLIAMS, AZ - Whether you're a native or new to Arizona, you already know we live in a beautiful and fascinating state.
Each Thursday, we're spotlighting a local hotel or resort that is a must-check-out destination.
Next time you feel the need for a road trip, staycation or pampering, go no further than the Travel section of ABC15.com . Here is this week's profile:
If you are headed up to the Grand Canyon this summer, you may be considering a night’s stay in Williams.
Well, why not make the stay memorable by sleeping in an authentic 1929 Santa Fe caboose.
The Canyon Motel & RV Park sits along Route 66 with a spectacular view of the 9,200 foot Bill Williams Mountain, according to the property's website.
The park is just blocks away from the heart of Williams with its restaurants, shopping galleries and the “striking architecture of 19th Century Williams.”
Kevin and Shirley Young left the big city life and jobs at a national hotel chain in California in search of a quiet life and a dream, according to their website. They sold just about everything they had to buy the property in 2001 that was about to be destroyed and replaced by town homes.
The Canyon Motel & RV Park is right near the Grand Canyon Railway that heads to Grand Canyon National Park just about every day and Bearizona.
At The Canyon Motel you’ll find the only two authentic cabooses being used for family lodging in northern Arizona. Retired by the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe system, both have been completely remodeled. Each caboose comes with a double and two bunk beds and come with their own full bathroom, cable TV, a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. You’ll also get free Wi-Fi Internet access.
The property also has a 1950s Grand Canyon Pullman rail car with its own three rooms and baths.
If you’re not up for a night on the train, The Canyon Motel also has 18 rooms in 1940s flagstone cottages. Bringing your own bedroom? The park has 47 full service RV spaces. And there are seven tent sites for those wanting the outdoors experience. The RV park amenities include restrooms, showers, and a laundry room. All RV sites are also full service with water, sewer, electrical, cable TV and Wi-Fi.
Summer rates range from around $74 to $170 depending on the room and day. The RV park starts at around $28 for a tent up to $50 for a 50 amp deluxe RV space.
The property has an indoor pool and a playground for the kids and two large community wood burning fire rings which were added last year for meeting new friends.
Pets are allowed with guests staying in the RV park and three of the motel rooms are pet-friendly. Boarding is available nearby, the owners say.
So get aboard and book your reservations for northern Arizona's overnight rail adventure at The Canyon Motel & RV Park.
