JEROME, AZ - Whether you're a native or new to Arizona, you already know we live in a beautiful and fascinating state.

Each Thursday, we're spotlighting a local hotel, bed and breakfast or resort that is a must-check-out destination.

Next time you feel the need for a road trip, staycation or pampering, go no further than the Travel section of ABC15.com . Here is this week's profile:

If your travel plans take you through Jerome any time soon, you may want to consider a sleepover at the Surgeon's House Bed & Breakfast .

Andrea Prince says she bought the home from the Phelps Dodge Corporation mining company 19 years ago and has been running it as a bed and breakfast for over 17 years.

According to its website , The Surgeon's House was built in 1916 by Phelps Dodge for the town's chief surgeon. The home has been on the National Historic Registry since 1966.

On the site, the company built a new hospital and virtual mansion for their head physician to live in. All the modern conveniences were included.

The home was used for years as the nurses' residence and in the 1930s became the home of Chief Surgeon Dr. Arthur Carlson.

After the mine closed in 1953 the house became home for the company's agent and later on other Jerome community members; councilmen, mayors, merchants, geologists, policemen, even Jerome's postmaster.

The house fell into disrepair over the years, but has been restored to its former beauty. The gardens, unique rooms and decks, rich wood floors, and the chauffeur's quarters have all have been beautifully restored, according to Andrea.

She is ready to share her "informal and relaxed hospitality" with Arizona's travelers.

Choose from any of The Surgeon's House four suites , all with spectacular views. The Master Suite features a King bed with private bath and balcony. The Maid's Suite is made up of a front and back room, each with its own private bath and King bed. The Chauffer's Quarters offers privacy, away from the main house; it features a King bed, private bath, kitchenette and secluded lushly landscaped patio.

Parking is off-street and there are garage accommodations for motorcycles. All rooms in the main house have high speed Wi-Fi. Well behaved pets are welcome with prior arrangements for a $45 fee per night. Guests have access to all the common areas of the home and grounds.

Andrea offers a "delectable" breakfast buffet, homemade snacks and complimentary beverages. The kitchen opens at 6:30 a.m. for hot beverages and breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m. Specific dietary needs can be accommodated when mentioned at the time you make your reservation.

In-room massage therapy can be arranged by appointment. Massage rates range from $75-$100 depending on the therapist available.

Andrea says, "The Surgeon's House Bed & Breakfast ... is a refuge for those who seek elegance in a rich, leisurely atmosphere, surrounded by peaceful settings and fantastic panoramic views."
