Now that fall is in full swing, it's time for holiday parties and that means lots of food and putting on a couple extra pounds.

Most people wait until the new year to make the resolution that they will live a healthier lifestyle... but why wait until the new year when you can start now! Michelle Dudash, registered dietitian and chef just came back from the American Dietetic Association's Food and Nutrition Expo and has the latest news in food trends, making it easier to make those delicious meals without the guilt.

Michelle gives some simple ticks to put into your lifestyle such as: new ways to eat veggies, healthier energy boosting drinks, and easier ways to monitor food portion size.

New Ways to Eat Your Veggies
Super Kale Cut N Clean Greens come in a variety of preparations. The chef explained that a key to enjoying raw kale was to let it rest in vinaigrette for 15 minutes prior to eating to tenderize. They also offer Jade Asian stir fry, which are fresh stir-fry blends packaged with seasonings.

Use the Skruba The Scrubbing Glove for making potato washing a cinch. 30% of the nutrients and half the fiber in a potato are in the skin.

Mushrooms as meat replacers
Minced mushrooms replace some of the meat and lowers calories and saturated fat in this scrumptious taco meat recipe.

Better-for-You Beverages
While the idea of sipping an energy drink on occasion before a big night out, the medicinal flavor, syrupy sweet taste, and neon glowing color of many energy drinks can be a turn off. Here are some healthier versions:

Welch's Fruit Fizz
Welch's sweetens their new grape Fruit Fizz with stevia.

V8 V-Fusion Energy
V8 recently announced their V-Fusion Energy, which offers the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but in a fruit flavor with vitamins and minerals.

V8 V-Fusion Smoothie
New from V8, their mango smoothie offers one full serving each of fruits and vegetables, with no added sugar and 130 calories per 8 ounce glass.

CasCal Fermented Natural Soda
CasCal Fermented Natural Soda (yet non-alcoholic) contains between 60-80 calories per 11-ounce bottle, is available in a variety of flavors, and is sweetened with juice. This natural soda tastes like wine and caters to the sophisticated palate.

Guayakí Yerba Mate
This drinks offers an alternative to soda and coffee, and with the caffeine you may be craving.

Perfect Portions
Portion size plates seem like a good idea in theory, but white plastic ware with painted-on numbers is so not sexy. Wine Trax offers a solution with their clear glass construction, translucent lines, and on-the-elegant-side silhouette. The wine glass outlines 4, 6, and 8-ounce pours.

Amy's recently released their Light & Lean line, which contains less than 300 calories each, 5 grams of fat, and at least 4 grams fiber.

Savory Choice chicken broth offers a rich taste and with fewer than 400 milligrams of sodium per 1 cup."

It's so easy to live the healthier, thinner life you've always wanted, just incorporate these easy tips into your everyday!
