You don't have to be a celebrity or a millionaire to be treated like one when you travel. It's all about being informed and taking advantage of the benefits you may already have and not even know about.
Melissa Biggs Bradley is the founder of Indagare.com , she shares a few tips to help you live in the lap of luxury when you hit the road.
1. When booking a hotel room don't be afraid to ask to see what else is available as even within the same category and the same price. There can be better views, better layouts or more recently renovated accommodations.
2. Always tell a hotel when you are traveling to celebrate a special occasion such as a honeymoon, birthday or anniversary. They will often provide an upgrade or a special welcome bottle of champagne.
3. Take a "mattress run". Look for special promotions and think about staying overnight at a hotel for the sole purpose of getting bonus points to use for an upcoming vacation or taking advantage of a special promotion that you can use for an upcoming trip (e.g., a discounted rate for your next stay or free night).
4. Take unnecessary legs on a trip to keep up your elite flyer status.
