Post-Baby Tune-Up® Procedure corrects multiple changes brought on by pregnancy - Just in time for Summer!
Dr. Nachbar described the Post-Baby Tune-Up® Procedure, which is a combination of procedures designed to correct some of the changes brought on by pregnancy.
As any mother will tell you, children bring many wonderful things into our lives, but pregnancy can also bring changes that are not so wonderful. Pregnancy, and especially repeated pregnancies, can stretch and distort the breasts and abdomen, causing abnormalities that cannot be corrected with diet and exercise alone. It can also cause fat pockets that are resistant to diet and exercise. Because these changes often go together, and can be improved with plastic surgery, Dr. Nachbar started combining these procedures ten to fifteen years ago, to help women whose bodies had been affected by pregnancy.
Dr. Nachbar coined the term "Post-Baby Tune-Up®" to describe this combination of procedures, long before the term "Mommy Makeover" was used for surgery. In fact, the term "Mommy Makeover" was first used to describe these procedures in an article about Dr. Nachbar's surgery on July 9, 2004. (Dr. Nachbar has the references to back up that claim on his website, www.plastic.org ).
During pregnancy, the uterus (or "womb") grows from about the size of an orange to about the size of a watermelon, stretching the muscle and skin of the abdomen. In particular, the bulging of the abdomen that is often left after pregnancy is generally due to stretching of the muscle. The two vertical "Rectus Abdominus" muscles can actually be pulled apart, so that there is no muscle in the midline. When this occurs, no amount of exercise can help, since there is no muscle in the midline for you to exercise! Unless the muscle is sewn back together, the bulge will persist, regardless of any diet or exercise.
In addition, the skin often stretches and remains loose and wrinkly. Dr. Nachbar's No Drain Tummy Tuck tightens both the muscle and the skin to reverse those changes. Although doing the Tummy Tuck without a drain is more difficult and complex than using a drain, Dr. Nachbar has been doing all of his Tummy Tucks that way since 2008. Having done the surgery both with and without a drain, being able to avoid the drain allows less discomfort after surgery and a quicker recovery, in Dr. Nachbar's experience.
In the breast area, there can also be a number of different changes. Typically, the breast enlarges during pregnancy, especially during breast feeding. While the breast occasionally retains the enlarged size after pregnancy and lactation, far more often the breast deflates. This sometimes produces a breast that is smaller than its pre-pregnancy size, but with a good shape. Other times, it produces a breast that is significantly droopy. If the breast is not too droopy, correction may involve a breast implant alone. However, if the breast droops too much, it may be necessary to do a breast lift along with implant placement. For some women, either choice is reasonable, and the decision will be made based on whether you would be willing to accept some mild droopiness after surgery.
In 2008, Dr. Nachbar introduced Arizona's first 3-D breast surgery simulator. He currently uses a newer model of the simulator to help women understand how their breasts may look with different sizes and styles of breast implants.
Dr. Nachbar does all of his surgery at a real hospital-based surgery center, with a real general anesthesia by a real physician anesthesiologist. When he does a tummy-tuck, he keeps the patient in the surgery center overnight, to help her get started on her recovery. This allows the various procedures to be combined, which allows for less overall recovery time, since you are recovering from all of the procedures at the same time.
Dr. Nachbar offers a complimentary consultation, to allow you to learn more about how the Post-Baby Tune-Up® Procedure can help you. The consultation includes the 3-D Breast Surgery simulation.
You can make your appointment for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Nachbar by calling his office at 480-289-5300 (the phone is always answered by a live person!), or by going online to his website, www.plastic.org http://www.plastic.org. His website also has lots of information about these procedures, as well as hundreds of before and after photos, and patient interviews.
With the Post-Baby Tune-Up® Procedure, you can be bikini-ready in time for summer!
