Everyone knows Las Vegas for its glitz and glamor, but there are plenty of cultural offerings as well.

Consider the Nevada State Museum Las Vegas. Opened in October 2011, the 70,000-square-foot building inside the Springs Preserve campus is nine miles from the Las Vegas Strip. Interactive exhibits, video presentations and other displays tell the stories of Nevada's people, geography and history. Artifacts you can see here include the first dinosaur fossils documented in Nevada, Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel's 1946 Flamingo stock certificate, mineral specimens from Nevada mines, preserved Nevada wildlife and Las Vegas showgirl costumes.

On the same campus, you will find Springs Preserve, a 180-acre cultural institution with museums, exhibits, gardens, interpretive trails, event space and more.  Not only are there interactive exhibits on the history of Las Vegas, but the venue hosts events and concerts as well as demonstrations on sustainable life in the desert.

Las Vegas also has a vibrant fine arts culture as well, with a highlight being the Smith Center, a world-class arts venue that opened in March.  Designed to accommodate everything from traveling Broadway shows to top musicians, it is also the home venue for resident companies that include the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Nevada Ballet Theater.
