"High School Musical" star Zac Efron stopped by the ABC15 studio on Thursday.

The 22-year-old superstar came to talk about his new movie, "Charlie St. Cloud".

"Charlie St. Cloud" is about a young man haunted by the sudden death of his younger brother Sam.

Throughout the movie, which opens next week, Charlie is torn between his promise to honor his brother's memory and the blossoming romance that longs to draw him into a bright future.

In case you missed it... here's what he said:

Host: A big name guy with the humility of any awesome just cool guy here with us. so let's take a quick clip and take a look at this. you know this guy, Zac Efron. Many of you know him as troy in "high school musical," but Zac Efron is taking on a new character in his movie, "Charlie St. Cloud." He plays a small town hero in a story of lost and ultimately love.

Zac: Thank you so much for having me.

Host: Have you been to seen this before?

Zac: Yes, I golfed here once.

Host: Your favorite place around here?

Zac: I can't remember the place where I stayed.

Host: Let’s get to the movie… I was crying the entire night. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect. "High School Musical" is just played over and over and over in my home with three boys. But this movie is based on a book, ‘The Death and Life of Charlie.’ Can you say where it took place?

Zac: You know, we filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. So yeah, it's an amazing place. It has everything… some of the most beautiful ocean photography.

Host: You loved to sail, but you suffered loss and abandoned your passion because of grief and there's a lot of tears in this movie. And I mean, I was bawling through the whole movie.

Zac: Great. Great. No, it's awesome. That's what i wanted from you.

Host: I think I can tell sometimes when actors force it… but you felt it. Where did you pull from that? Did you have to get into a zone with that character?

Zac: You know, with this specifically this character and what he's going through with his little brother, I found it easy to picture my younger brother going through this and being in all the scenes with him. That was all I needed.

Host: As anyone, you know, I'm sure you have relatives and you know -- we're (both hosts are) moms of boys, we get the relationships.

Zac: It's kind of similar. in the movie, I'm kind of raising my younger brother. We have an absentee father who disappeared a long time ago and I'm sort of grooming him to be successful.

Host: Like you? >

Zac: Yeah. We didn't grow up rich or anything, lower middle class, and you know, sort of trying to teach him that if he really puts his mind to it and you know, focuses that he can do whatever he wants in this world.

Host: (Your character is torn between) Two different worlds. Do you relate to that because you've got like “Zac Efron” and then you've got like Zac.

Zac: I just like being me when I go home, nobody cares. So yeah, I guess I have a bit of that. It's different in the movie, but I definitely understand what you're saying.

Rapid fire questions:
You never leave your house without what: My iPhone.
I just got a new iPhone. I love it but then again, I have the case around it. I saw "Consumer Reports" and stuff. I haven't had any problems with it. I really love my new iPhone.

Beach or mountain?
I'd probably say mountains since I just went to the beach.

If i wasn't an actor, I'd want to be what?
Something to get out into the wild and travel. I love, you know, traveling so I don't know. Something that gets me without into the world. Adventure something. Adventure seeker.

Singing dances or acting if you had to choose one?
I’m being tortured and had to choose just one? I would choose acting. Just the opportunity to play different characters. The people I get to go experience things vicariously through is really fun.

I like my pizza with what?
I like it with ranch. It's really good.

What's your worst habit?
I don't know. I'm sure I have -- a million of them.

Charlie St. Cloud opens in theaters on July 30th.
