How to find great deals in social media

If you are only using social media to network, you are not using it to its fullest potential.

Savvy Socialista Jami Lindberg says there are many deals you will only learn about through posts on Facebook walls, and she also has some special one-day-only deals to share with each of you.

Here are her tips to "insider" discounts at a variety of retailers, local vendors and restaurants.

1. Set up a Facebook account

This is easy to do and can be done through any email.  Make sure your password is secure and customize the settings to ensure you are only giving out the information to your prospective Facebook friends that you want.

2. "Like" business pages

Nearly all businesses have Facebook pages.  A simple search on the top line can help you find those in your community and other parts of the country.  Many of the deals you will learn about through Facebook posts will be online deals and discounts.  So, broaden your search to businesses beyond your city.

3. If you love a business, tell your friends about it and hyperlink by using the @ symbol in front of the business name.

This is the 'networking' component of the social networking.  In order to create a highlighted (hyperlink) business or friend in the text of your post they must first be on your list of friends.  Once there. Type the @ symbol and begin typing the name of the business.  A drop down menu of businesses and friends with similar spellings will appear and click on the one you intend to hyperlink.

4. Watch for specials and deals and 'share' them with your friends.

When you see a great deal share the link or post with your friends.  In doing so, you will invite your friends to reciprocate and gain access to more information about savings and deals.
