Table manners often go overlooked or unused, but in all fairness most of us aren't aware that our behaviors are viewed as improper.
An expert in etiquette Mrs. Hancock, from mrshancocks.com , says there are many reasons table etiquette is so important, aside from showing that you are educated and worldly. She offered to share her greatest tips when it comes to prim dining.
Mrs. Hancock gives the following tips:
No elbows on the table.
If you drop your utensil in a restaurant, don't pick it up. This is your servers or bus-persons' job. Germs; reaching underneath is undignified. Just ask politely for another. That goes for your napkin, as well.
Wait for others before you eat. If you're the last, allow others to begin.
When you meet someone for the first time, a.) Smile, b.) Eye Contact c). Firm handshake d). Speak up e). Share your name f). Greet properly with a good afternoon. Pet Peeve: Saying "Gud." Proper response is "Well, fantastic, etc."
