How many dreams have you put on a shelf hoping to someday pull them down, dust them off and work on accomplishing them? If you have ever said, "I'm too old to try to do that now," think again.
Leon Gildin is a Valley author, who wrote and published two novels in his 80's. The Polski Affair, and its sequel The Family Affair both center around families, and the secrets that are held within them only to surface years later.
The Polski Affair won a historical fiction award, and Gildin says it tells the story of two families who were 'guests' of the Hotel Polaski in 1943, and are living in Israel years later in the 1970's. Anna is the main character in the story, she is haunted by the memories and feelings of guilt for what she did to survive.
He goes on to say the sequel, The Family Affair, picks up the storyline years where Anna's secretive past catches up with her in ways she could never have expected, affecting her family for years to come.
Gildin says his inspiration for the books came from working as an entertainment attorney when a client published a book about the hotel that included interviews from holocaust survivors who stayed there. He goes on to say 'their desriptions of what took place at the hotel stayed with me, haunting me from a drawer where I filed the book'. In his retirement it became his inspiration to write the books.
If you have a similar inspiration, Gilden has some advice; get a good agent and a professional editor, hire a publicist, and make sure the book is available as an e-book.
