Subway art has become a popular decorating trend, used as artwork with typography expressions to describe a holiday, theme or location.

You’ll find subway art on canvas, wood and even printed out on paper and placed in a frame.

In this DIY tutorial we’re learning how to create subway art on burlap with paint and stencils.

Supply List:

Burlap

Paint

Stencils

Dowel

Circular unfinished wood endcaps

Jute

Hot glue for wood

Hot glue gun

Pounce Sponge

Directions:

  1. Cut the burlap to size
  2. Choose the desired wording and firmly hold the stencil while applying paint.
  3. Allow to dry
  4. Adhere the circular wood pieces to the ends of the dowel with wood hot glue and paint.
  5. Roll the edge of the burlap around the dowel and roll like a ‘scroll’
  6. Attach jute, burlap or ribbon to the ends of the dowel to create something to hang.
