A local charity is asking for help in getting musical instruments to kids that need them.

Ear Candy Charity impacts more than 15,000 kids each year by fulfilling its mission of providing young students access to music education through three programs: Online Instrument Drives, Play It Forward, and Backstage Class.

Ear Candy says participation in music education provides many benefits for students, including heightened academic performance in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), increased self-esteem, the development of team building and social skills, and has been shown to produce a strong correlation with higher socioeconomic status in adulthood.

But, they say, across the country thousands of youth each year miss out on music classes because they cannot afford to purchase or rent an instrument. The advantages of music education are far too numerous to deny any student the opportunity, especially when financial circumstances outside of their control hinder their access.
