Arizona Anti-Bullying Summit aims to stop bullying

Phoenix First Lady Nicole Stanton organized Arizona Anti-Bullying Summit.

"The goal of the Summit is to provide education, break out learning sessions, data gathering, best practices and other strategies to develop a cohesive response and system of tools to stop bullying in schools in Arizona," according to the organization.

The Summit is hosted by Arizona State University in the Memorial Union from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, but is not open to the public.

The organization said, "The keynote speaker is international anti-bullying expert Dr. Dan Olweus, research professor of psychology, affiliated with the Research Center for Health Promotion at the University of Bergin in Norway. Olweus is generally recognized as a pioneer and founding father of research on bullying problems. In 1970, he started a large-scale project that is now generally regarded as the first scientific study of bullying problems in the world. He is the author of the book Bullying at School: What We Know and What We Can Do which has been translated into fifteen languages."
