We all remember hearing the old saying, "You can only wear white from Memorial Day to Labor Day," and "don't wear black and navy blue together," but Outlet Shopping Gal Allison Friedrichs says rules are meant to be broken.
This summer you can throw out your mom's fashion rule book and follow these 4 tips from Friedrichs to update your look for the season.
The Rule: Don't wear denim head to toe
Break It: Mix in white denim with chambray. The crisp look of white offsets the blue and makes the outfit pop for summer.
The rule: Animal print should only be used to accent your outfit.
Break it: Wear a long animal print dress for a sexy and bold fashion statement that you can be proud to make!
The rule: Don't mix patterns
Break it: Pair coordinated prints. This one can be tricky but when done right, mixing patterns is fabulous. To make it work, be sure to keep it all in the same color family and wear a small pattern with a larger one to avoid overwhelming your whole look.
The rule: Don't wear black and brown together
Break it: Realize the power of neutrals! Neutral colors go with anything - including one another. The key is not to make it look like an accident. It doesn't work all black with brown shoes but really mixing the neutrals and adding accessories to balance it out will create a perfect ensemble.
