PHOENIX - The Arizona Humane Society is kicking off a summer campaign to find new homes for cats and kittens housed at their shelters.
The "Leave No Feline Behind" campaign begins Friday, May 4 through August 31.
If you've been considering adding a feline companion to your family, the Arizona Humane Society is offering an adopt-for-a-donation fee.
While the average cost to care for an animal in AHS’ shelter is $314, the average adoption fee is usually $48. However, during the summer months, people will be able to adopt a cat or kitten at a donation amount that is meaningful to them and the life they are saving.
AHS officials say that every seven minutes a cat or kitten enters the Arizona Humane Society's doors, with the summer months being the most challenging on space and resources.
Throughout the year, that amounted to 15,000 kittens and 6,000 cats coming through their doors.
Each summer AHS is faced with the difficult task of handling the overflow and is committed to seeing that the cats and kittens in their care are given the second chance they deserve while also enriching the lives of those who adopt them.
