Who does not need a break from the blah days of winter? March marks the time of year when many college students and even adults escape for a few days of fun and relaxation.

But being eco-friendly will not only help you save money, but help you save the environment from even more pollution.

First, pick where you are heading. If you want to avoid the crowded beaches and motels, then consider a state park or even staying at home, and reading a book.

If you are traveling by yourself or with a friend, consider driving. It may take longer, but since planes require a lot more fossil fuels, by driving there, you will not burn up as much gas as a plane would. If neither of those is something you want to do you can always take the train. But if you do choose to drive, pick an eco-friendly car.

Once you get to your vacation city, park the car and walk everywhere you can. You will not only reduce carbon emissions, but you will get plenty of exercise in the way.

If you are planning to stay at a resort or hotel, pick ones that have a major impact on the environment. Experts say call your hotel to see if it is certified by the Leadership Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building System.

And when it comes to eating on your way to your vacation while on vacation, pack your own food. It will help reduce the Styrofoam containers and wrappers you would get if you buy fast food.
