WASHINGTON - "Burgers in bed" may soon be a reality, thanks to one fast food chain.

Burger King has quietly begun testing a home delivery service for some customers in the Washington, D.C. area.

Right now, the No. 2 burger chain has four restaurants offering home delivery. But the company is expected to roll the service out nationwide, if it is successful.

The fast food chain currently charges a $2 delivery fee for each order and a minimum order of at least $8. The restaurant also requires each customer to live within 10 minutes driving time from the store.

Burger King said it will try to deliver within 30 minutes of the time a phone or online order is received. Currently, the service is only offered from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and no breakfast items are being delivered. Also, all drinks delivered are in bottles.

The fast food chain also said they have a way to keep their food fresh upon delivery.

“The new packaging ensures the Whopper is delivered hot and fresh, and the French fries are delivered hot and crispy,” said chief brand and operations officer Jonathan Fitzpatrick.

The delivery service really caught on in the pizza industry. Domino's Pizza said its business is 70 percent delivery. But Domino’s spokesman Tim McIntyre told ABC News it isn’t easy.

"We wish them luck. There is a reason that not all pizza places deliver,” McIntyre said.
