Fashion show at the Heard Museum combines vintage clothing and contemporary jewelry

PHOENIX - As the newest trends for fall are making an appearance, some of the oldest styles still have staying power.

Vintage fashion is being featured by native and non-native designers at the Heard Museum during their exhibition POP! Popular Culture in American Indian Art.

The exhibition will include a fashion show by the Robert Black Boutique mixed with jewelry at the Heard Museum Shop - It will be a fun combination of vintage and contemporary.

According to Phil Conley from the Heard Museum, you should remember these tips when it comes to buying and wearing vintage clothing:

1. Try on the clothing. Sizes and styles vary by decade, so don't get hung up on which size you wear now.
2. Alter the clothing if necessary. If you look great in the outfit, but there is an issue with length. Don't be afraid to tailor it. Since the styles are unique, you may need to make it fit with a slight alteration.
3. Accessorize with contemporary jewelry. The goal is to wear the clothing not have the clothing wear you. So, make it into an outfit not pieces of clothing.
4. Be aware of costume-like clothing. It may be fun to dress up like your favorite character on Halloween, but you should be able to blend vintage pieces with more contemporary clothes.
5. Have fun. Fashion is a great way to express yourself, so buy pieces you like that mix in well with your style.

The fashion show will be on Friday, September 17 at 8pm.
