The season begins in September with "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Sept. 1-Oct. 1, followed by "Legally Blonde the Musical," Oct. 6-Nov. 12, "A Christmas Carol," Nov. 17-Dec. 25, "Brigadoon," Dec. 30-Feb. 11, 2012, "Me and My Girl", Feb. 16-April 8, and "A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline," April 12-May 26.
All productions employ local actors, with national leads contracted. "Each season the Broadway Palm's creative team travels to New York City to audition over 5,000 professional actors, dancers, singers and musicians to bring the finest entertainment to Mesa and surrounding Valley communities," says Gary Kimble, director of marketing and public relations for Broadway Palm.
"We are the first in the Valley to produce The Madison Square Garden version of 'A Christmas Carol,' which has become a must-see holiday tradition in New York City," he says. As Actors Theatre will not be producing "A Christmas Carol" this season, this will be one of the few versions in the area.
The parent company, Prather Entertainment Group, has been producing professional theater for 50 years, Kimble notes. Two sister theaters - in Ft. Myers, Fla., and Lancaster, Pa. - make Broadway Palm part of the largest chain of professional dinner theaters in America.
Broadway Palm is actually two theaters: the main dining room and Broadway stage, seating 400-plus guests for dinner and a show, and The "Off Broadway" Theater, which seats 130 patrons for comedies, plays, murder mysteries and other special events.
