The clock is ticking for Kim Kardashian's July due date, and the 32-year-old reality star would really like to be divorced when she becomes a first-time mom.

Her attempts to split from basketball player Kris Humphries after their 72-day marriage has turned into a lengthy legal battle. Kardashian filed for divorce in October 2011, and Humphries followed suit by requesting a legal separation and an annulment on the grounds of fraud.

Kardashian, in turn, filed documents with the Los Angeles Superior Court about a month ago in an effort to end her marriage before she welcomes Kanye West's baby this summer, CNN's confirmed.

A source close to Kardashian told CNN that Humphries filed his own documents requesting to prolong the divorce on Wednesday.

"The divorce has been going on for a year now. She moved on a long time ago, and closed the door to that chapter," the source said. "Unfortunately, [Humphries is] doing everything and anything he can to drag it on as long as he can. He has a good career and good money, but he wants to keep his name out there as long as he can. We don't understand -- they were married for a total of 72 days, but the divorce has taken a year."

CNN has reached out to Humphries for comment. Kardashian and West, who announced their joyful news around the New Year's holiday, are reportedly expecting their firstborn in early July.

"I do not want to be married to (Humphries) when I have my baby," Kardashian said in her court docs, according to People magazine. "I am requesting the status of my marriage be determined for now for not only my health and welfare but also for the health and well-being of my unborn child."
