CLEVELAND - The semifinals of “Dancing with the Stars” answered many questions. We know how classical singer Katherine Jenkins is doing after her injury, and whether or not she went home, or if another high-scoring couple got the boot.
Before we found out how Katherine was doing, the judges picked actor William Levy and Cheryl to do the encore dance with their sassy samba. Then, the show brought us up to speed about Katherine, who felt a twinge in her back at the end of her second dance Monday night. Doctors said she would be able to continue dancing.
Injury aside, former front runner Katherine also had the lowest scores Monday night, so she was most in danger of not competing. Blessedly, the show answered that question quick: viewers voted for Katherine and Mark, who will now compete in the championships.
Making her “injury” look nonexistent, Katherine jumped up and down like a jackhammer upon hearing the news. Now that’s a speedy recovery.
Amusingly, Katherine tweeted, “Lets not get carried away with how serious my 'back problem' is... Was a spasm,I didn't go to hospital & it's not going to affect next week!”
The show also revealed what’s up for the next season of “Dancing with the Stars.” Or should I say “Dancing with the All-Stars?” Yep, the next season will feature former champs and… other memorable characters. So that might not only include Kristi Yamaguchi and Hines Ward (yea!), but Kate Gosselin as well (yikes).
The show also treated us to one of its Design-a-Dance segments, where viewers picked Tristan and Chelsie to do a samba. Alanis Morissette performed.
Back to the competition, the show revealed that TV host Maria Menounos and Derek were in jeopardy.
Back to the performances (wow, this is hectic) with DWTS alumnus Julianne Hough, actor Diego Boneta, and singer Mary J. Blige doing a big number from their upcoming movie “Rock of Ages.”
Back to the competition--whoops, the performances were still going. Now for a diddy from Carrie Underwood.
Okay, back in the competition, the show revealed William and Cheryl were safe.
William tweeted, “@CherylBurke proud of u girl!! Thank u for ur hard work!! I know u will come out with an awesome routine for the finals. We believe in u.”
So, the couples that got the least viewer votes were Maria and Derek, and Green Bay Packer Donald Driver and Peta. In the end, Maria and Derek were sent packing.
Maria, who did the usual TV tour after being eliminated, tweeted, “On my way to the airport w/ @derekhough.bless you all for your love &support.this experience was magical &im so lucky to have had it.”
It’s not too surprising Maria, who got the highest judges’ scores Monday, got the least viewer votes. Katherine has been a top performer all season, William obviously has a grown a huge female fan base, and likeable Donald has improved week to week.
Donald tweeted, “Packer Nation thank you for keeping me safe. This is the last week for #DWTS. If we plan on bring the Mirror Ball to Titletown. I need you.”
Tune in to “Dancing with the Stars” Monday night on ABC15 to see the final performances before the winner gets announced.
