NEW YORK - Oprah appeared as the special guest host on "Good Morning America" Thursday, while co-host Robin Roberts is on extended medical leave.

Roberts told viewers in July that she has MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease once known as preleukemia.

She underwent a bone marrow transplant and got home from the hospital on Oct. 11.

Roberts' last day on GMA was Aug. 30, but she says she will return very soon.

She called in during the show to say she can't wait to be back. The GMA team cheered as soon as they heard her voice.

Guest hosts filling in for Roberts have included actor Rob Lowe, singer and fashion designer Jessica Simpson, and Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

GMA airs from 7 to 9 a.m. on weekdays after ABC15 Mornings.
