NEW YORK - Robin Roberts embraced the love and support of her family and friends at "Good Morning America" Thursday as she goes on extended medical leave.
Roberts told viewers in July that she has MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease once known as preleukemia.
She will be going home to Mississippi after Thursday's show to be with her ailing mother.
Roberts said on Monday's show that she will be hospitalized next week to prepare for the bone marrow transplant that will take place about 10 days after that.
Her sister, Sally, was a perfect match and is Roberts' donor.
Roberts said she will be back very soon.
Martina McBride performed Thursday in her honor.
