Jessica Simpson is moving into scripted TV.

A rep for the singer/actress confirms that she's landed a semi-autobiographical comedy with NBC.

The show's based on a pitch from Robin and Nick Bakay, who drew inspiration for the concept from Simpson's real life. Nick Bakay ("Paul Blart: Mall Cop") will write the script.

"I often find myself thinking that no one could ever make up the things that actually happen in my life," Simpson said. "So between the real life elements and a great team of writers, I think we'll have people laughing!"

NBC did not provide any details about the show's name or premiere date at this point. Universal Television and Electus are co-producing a pilot.

Simpson is an executive producer on the show along with her father and manager, Joe Simpson, as well as Nick Bakay and Electus' Ben Silverman.

"From running a fashion empire to wrangling her public image as a new mom, we see Jessica's character approach a variety of 'everyday' circumstances that will get audiences laughing out loud," said Silverman, who is the founder and chairman of Electus, in a statement.

Simpson added that she's "so excited to work with Ben and NBC again, this time on a scripted comedy." The star's been spotted on reality television several times, recently participating as a mentor on NBC's "Fashion Star" in 2011.

She also appeared on the VH1 documentary reality series "Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty" in 2010, and starred on MTV's "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" with ex-husband Nick Lachey from 2003 to 2005.
