Katy Perry fans await release of 3D film, learn darker side of pop star's journey

Katy Perry released her latest music video Monday for ‘ Wide Awake, ’ but the video’s darker theme doesn’t seem to match that of the usually peppy pop star.

According to E! Online , Perry told MTV that ‘Wide Awake’ was meant to symbolize the “labyrinth” of her life.

"I just wanted to tell a story about myself kind of going through this journey, maybe sometimes trying to get out of a maze. There's good parts and bad parts," Perry told MTV.

E! Online said that in one portion of the video, her exchange with a fairytale prince was a hint towards her relationship with actor Russell Brand.

The video also encompasses her fame and recent concert stint on her California Dreams Tour.

Perry seems to have been in the spotlight non-stop since her divorce from Brand, but is showing other signs that she wants to let others take a more personal look inside her world.

Katy Perry fans can see more inside her life at the release of her ‘Part of Me 3D’ film in theaters July 5.
