Actor LIAM McINTYRE cried as filming on the last ever episode of gladiator series SPARTACUS wrapped and paid tribute to the cast and crew for making his stint on the show a memorable one.

The TV hit, initially titled Spartacus: Blood and Sand, debuted on the Starz channel in 2010 with actor Andy Whitfield as the historic gladiator, but when he lost his battle with cancer in 2011, network bosses cast McIntyre in the lead role.

However, his time as the fighter came to an end last summer (12) when TV executives announced the third season of the show, War of the Damned, would be its last - and the Australian couldn't keep his emotions under control as he shot his final scenes.

He tells People magazine, "I cried (after the show wrapped). It's hard to say goodbye to the job that changed everything about me. I gave a speech thanking everyone for having faith in me. I was chosen to carry the legacy of Andy Whitfield, and it's been an honor."

Spartacus: War of the Damned premiered in January (13) and is due to conclude in April (13).
