Actress JULIANNA MARGULIES always makes time for her husband because she knows first-hand how children can ruin a marriage.

The Good Wife star's parents divorced when she a little girl, and Margulies and her two older sisters had to split their time between their writer dad Paul and ballet dancer mom Francesca, both of whom lived in different countries.

Growing up she became convinced their union failed because they didn't focus enough on each other, and the 46 year old reveals she now makes sure her partner Keith Lieberthal is as much of a priority as her baby son Kieran.

She tells Ladies' Home Journal, "I think the second you let the child overwhelm the marriage, you're not going to have a marriage. That's what happened to my family, and I think that's why I waited so long and didn't think I was going to have kids of my own. So Keith and I go out all the time! We did last night!

"Keith will explain to Kieran, 'I'm going to take Mom out for dinner and we'll see you in the morning and you're going to be just fine.' And Kieran's like, 'OK.' I hope when he gets married he'll find a wife that he wants to take out to dinner, because things like that are important. Happy parents, happy child."

Margulies also insists although she loves being a mother, she doubts she will add to their brood: "It would be nice to have been able to maybe have another one, but I don't think that's going to happen. We basically never really had a plan. We were like, 'If it happens it happens, if it doesn't, it doesn't.' And that's OK."
