PHOENIX - A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will air on ABC15 and our digital channel 15.2 on Wednesday.
The test will go out over, Direct TV, Dish Network, Cox Cable and any other outlet on which ABC15 airs at 12 p.m. The test is expected to last 30 seconds.
Currently, EAS participants currently take part in state-level monthly tests and local-level weekly tests. There has never been a nationwide test of the system.
According to the Federal Communications Commission, the purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a mechanism to alert the public of emergencies.
