Mesa collects hazardous waste during four events throughout the year. After its most recent event, the city collected nearly 7,000 gallons of paint.
City workers are going through the paint to make sure it's okay to use. The paint is repackaged into five-gallon buckets and available for residents.
The program is free but paint must be used for exterior projects. ABC15 visited the paint mixing center. Colors available included white, beige, and grey.
The city says the goal is to help prevent hazardous materials from getting into the landfills and revitalize the community.
Other valley cities also offer free services. Call your city's neighborhood services department to find out more.
Here are some other free services we found:
Free emergency home repairs for low-income households and funds for exterior rehabilitation.
Home repair assistance information
Free housework for elderly.
