PHOENIX -- After a wonderful June here in the Valley, the last two months have been brutal.
We experienced the hottest July on record and now the third hottest August ever here in Phoenix.
The average high in August was 107.2 in Phoenix, which was second warmest on record.
The average low ended up at 83.2, which was the 12th warmest ever.
When you look at the average temperature for the month, that number ended up at 95.2, making August the third hottest on record.
We had five record high temperatures (tied record highs), four record high minimum and 11 days of 110+ temperatures.
Rainfall was pretty hard to find as well.
Total rainfall at Sky Harbor was .29" which was 25th driest on record. Compare that number to our average amount of rain for August, which is .94".
Even our neighbors to the north and south experienced a harsh August.
Tucson ended up with its second warmest August on record and fifth driest on record.
Flagstaff had two daytime highs in the above 90 with little rainfall. Only .74" fell at the airport which was more than 2" below normal fort he month.
The long range forecast for September, October, and November is calling for warmer and drier than normal conditions for this time period.
Keep in mind that El Nino is expected to continue and get stronger towards the winter months.
