PHOENIX -- The Black Canyon Fire Department fielded nearly two dozen calls Friday night after an earthquake shook the area north of the Valley.
According to Black Canyon City firefighter Shawn Smith, the 3.1 magnitude quake was felt at about 11 p.m. He said the phones started lighting up within minutes.
Smith said the quake was centered in the area of Sunset Point about 10 miles north on Interstate 17.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey website, the quake was felt from Peoria in the north Valley to Cordes Lakes and Prescott. It was even felt in Las Vegas, over 200 miles away.
Pamela Hanover of Cleator, southwest of Cordes Junction, said "I thought it was an explosion of some kind because I heard a loud noise, then things started to rattle around."
Smith said the tremor could be felt from four to five seconds.
He said he felt "a little light rumble and it quit."
There were no reports of damage or injuries, according to Smith.
