Forecasts & Warnings
Understand the difference between an excessive heat outlook, excessive heat watch and excessive heat warnings and when they're issued.
Arizona heat facts
The highest temperature Phoenix has endured was 122 degrees back on June 26th, 1990. Even more amazing may be the fact that our hottest overnight low was 96 degrees on July 15th, 2003.
Heat stress
The heat wave of 1980 killed more than 1,250 people across the United States. The only other weather related phenomena that killed more on average each year is lightning.
Tips for avoiding heat-related illnesses
Here are some tips for staying safe and healthy in the Arizona heat.
Cars and heat
It's common sense, but it happens every summer in Arizona. Never leave infants, children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Heat illness
According to the Phoenix Fire Department, heat-related injuries fall into three major categories. Heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
What is SPF?
SPF is short for Sun Protection Factor.
Skin cancer information
The sun can provide relief from aching joints, acne and psoriasis. It's also a great source of Vitamin D. However, experts also agree that there are extreme dangers from too much sun outweigh the benefits.
