Frost may be a problem in Janaury. When frost is expected, cover your tender plants with a sheet or some light covering by 8 p.m. and remove it by 9 a.m. the next day.

Temperatures are nearing that 100°F mark. Years that we see late winter and early spring showers will result in wildflowers blooming across the desert floor.

Plant Bermuda lawns when the soil warms up in early May. Cut your grass down to half of an inch until the winter rye grass dies.

Plant your Bermuda lawns if you haven't already. Apply iron to your lawn once a month. If it's time to dethatch, do it during the active growing season which is May through August.

Pick early-maturing fruit that’s particularly prone to bird damage. It’s okay to pick it before full maturity.

Cut back on fertilizing established roses. Water your roses deeply. Hose off rose plants early in the morning to increase humidity and control spider mites. If your roses show yellowing from iron deficiency, add an iron supplement.

As temperatures drop below 100 degrees, seeds of cool season crops can be planted.

Water newly planted shrubs and trees once per week. Cut back on watering all trees and shrubs by about one-third as weather cools, but continue to water deep.

Yellowing of the winter lawn may occur when the cold weather sets in.

Prepare for frosts now. If you don't care for your sensitive trees, bushes, flowers and vegetables before the first frost, it's probably too late.
