Check current traffic conditions around the Valley and state
PHOENIX – Freeway improvement work will require a few sections of Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to be closed over the weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following closures or lane restrictions are in place:
Eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 in Tempe from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8) for freeway widening. Eastbound Loop 202 on-ramps from Sky Harbor Boulevard and Priest Drive also closed. DETOUR: Traffic will travel south on Scottsdale Road, east on Rio Salado Parkway. Consider eastbound Interstate 10 to US 60 (Superstition Freeway) as an alternate route to reach East Valley.
Westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) closed between McDowell Road and Country Club Drive in Mesa from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8) for freeway widening. DETOUR: Traffic will use southbound Gilbert Road and westbound McKellips Road to travel beyond closure.
Southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) closed at Broadway Road from 11 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday (Feb. 6) for lane striping. DETOUR: Traffic will use southbound frontage road.
Eastbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) narrowed to three lanes between Priest Drive and Mill Avenue from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8) for freeway widening. Eastbound US 60 on-ramp at Priest Drive and off-ramp at Mill Avenue closed. DETOUR: Please slow down and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.
Northbound Interstate 17 narrowed to two lanes between Bell Road and Loop 101 from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 6) for lane striping. Northbound I-17 ramps to Loop 101 also closed. DETOUR: To reach Loop 101 exit northbound I-17 at Union Hills, go east to 19th Avenue and north to freeway.
Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) closed overnight at Union Hills Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 6) for bridge work. Northbound Loop 101 closed overnight at Union Hills Drive from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 7) for bridge work. DETOUR: Traffic will exit and re-enter freeway along off- and on-ramps at Union Hills Drive.
Interstate 10 narrowed to one lane in both directions overnight between Cotton Lane and Verrado Way from 9 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8) for freeway widening. DETOUR: Please slow down and be prepared to merge safely in work zone.
In Phoenix:
SEVENTH STREET AND McDOWELL ROAD INTERSECTION
McDowell Road is currently restricted to two lanes in the westbound and eastbound directions until Monday, April 5 for intersection widening and reconstruction.
The second of two left turn lanes serving northbound to westbound traffic will be restricted during this time. All left turn movements and multiple through lanes at the intersection will be maintained during daytime hours.
Additional through and turn lane restrictions will take place during evening hours.
This work is part of a Federal Stimulus project administered by the City of Phoenix Design and Construction Management Division.
Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
Local and business access will be maintained.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
44TH STREET- VAN BUREN STREET TO McDOWELL ROAD
44th Street is scheduled to be closed in both directions from Van Buren Street to McDowell Road on Friday, February 5 at 10 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. Monday, February 8 for installation of bridge girders on the SR 202 Red Mountain Freeway. This work is part of the ADOT freeway expansion.
During this work, 44th Street through traffic will be detoured at Van Buren Street and McDowell Road to 40th and 48th streets.
Local and business access will be maintained.
Police will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
FIRST FRIDAYS – FEBRUARY 5 FROM 6 P.M. to 11 P.M.
The following street will be closed from 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 5 until 1 a.m. Saturday, February 6:
· Roosevelt Street – Central Avenue to Seventh Street
The following streets will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday, February 5 until 1 a.m. Saturday, February 6:
· Third Street – Portland to Roosevelt streets
· Fourth Street – Garfield to Roosevelt streets
Police officers will be on-site to assist with traffic control.
All streets will be open to normal traffic by 1 a.m. Saturday, February 6.
THE IMS ARIZONA MARATHON - FEBUARY 14 FROM 6 A.M. TO 1:30 P.M.
This marathon will take place on Sunday, February 14 in the west valley beginning in Good Year. It will travel through some of the west valley communities and into Phoenix. It will travel east on Camelback Road from El Mirage Road to 99th Avenue. Here it will turn north and make its way onto the Westgate City Center in Glendale.
During this event, Camelback Road westbound curb lane will be restricted from El Mirage Road to 99th Avenue.
City of Phoenix police officers will handle traffic control within the city of Phoenix.
Drivers are encouraged to allow for additional travel time during this period.
In Tempe:
Tempe, Ariz - The SR 202 westbound on- and off-ramps at Scottsdale Road will be closed intermittently (nights and weekends only) through Feb. 15 as follows for ADOT freeway work.
On-ramp:
- nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Feb. 2 through 5
- nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Feb. 10 and 11
- from 10 p.m. Feb. 12 to 9 a.m. Feb. 15
- nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Feb. 15 and 16
Off-ramp:
- nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Feb. 1 through 5
- from 10 p.m. Feb. 12 to 9 a.m. Feb. 15
