A major state roadway has re-opened after two people were killed in a head-on collision north of the Valley Thursday morning.
According Harold Sanders with the Department of Public Safety, the driver of a Nissan passenger car was traveling southbound on US 93, about 15 miles north of Wickenburg, when it tried to pass another vehicle at approximately 10:45 a.m.
The Nissan drove head-on into a northbound motorcycle that was carrying an operator and passenger, Sanders said. Both died at the scene.
Sanders said the driver of the Nissan and a passenger in a pickup truck involved in the accident were injured and taken to a Valley hospital. There is no word on their condition.
Sanders said the roadway is closed in both directions with northbound traffic being routed off US 93 at the junction with State Route 89 and southbound traffic is being detoured at US 93 and State Route 71.
Investigators say the cause of the collision was due to the unsafe passing by the driver of the Nissan into the face of oncoming traffic.
