TEMPE, AZ -- Five people were injured after a vehicle reportedly crashed into a pickup truck abandoned on a Valley freeway Tuesday morning.

The wreck occurred on the eastbound Loop 202, just west of Scottsdale Road, around 10:45 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

According to an official with the Department of Public Safety, the vehicle was traveling eastbound and struck the pickup parked on the left side of the roadway.

The occupied vehicle reportedly spun-out and blocked two lanes of traffic, as well as the eastbound Priest on-ramp.

Tempe Fire spokesman Mike Reichling told The Arizona Republic the family was traveling eastbound near Priest Drive around 11 a.m. when the driver became "distracted" and ran into an abandoned pickup truck parked in the emergency lane.

Apparently a father and mother were seatbelted and their three children were strapped into their car seats.

It reportedly took 20 minutes for firefighters to get the family out of the vehicle.

DPS said they were all transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
