Despite the down economy, business is good for the Botox industry.

Trish Gulbranson is President and CEO of Derma Health Institute.

She is opening a third botox location in Ahwatukee this month.

Gulbranson said business is booming because more people are getting Botox injections and fillers to reduce wrinkles and restore the appearance of youth.

She believes it might be because recent layoffs are making the job market very competitive.

“You hear so many people that say, 'I have to compete against the 30 year olds or the 25 year olds,' and 'How am I supposed to do that at my age.'”

She also thinks some people are turning to methods of skin resurfacing so they can avoid more expensive surgical procedures.

“Fractionalized lasers, they're more money than let's say Botox is, but that's a business for us that's up 30 percent this year.  So, I think the people who are doing that are maybe the people that would have done the surgery previously.”
