Those of us with curly hair try to straighten it while those who don't have it, wish they did.

It's a no-win situation, stylists will often tell you instead of fighting your hair, embrace it!

Belle Mélange Salon offers these tips to tame those locks and keep them looking great all day long, whether you're going curly or straight.

1) Shampoo hair twice. First use a clarifying shampoo and then a moisturizing shampoo.

2) Condition hair for 5-20 minutes; this is a good time to comb through and detangle it. Then rinse with cool water.

3) Apply moisturizing products to towel dried hair. If styling curly, apply additional curl enhancing products and diffuse or let air dry completely before touching.

4) To flat iron hair, part into four sections and braid or twist each section. Allow to air dry or begin to blow dry.

5) Blow out each section using a comb attachment or a paddle brush.

6) Apply a light oil if needed, then begin to straighten by taking 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch sections. Press the flat iron firmly and slowly from root to ends.

7) When complete, a shine spray or serum can be used for fly-aways.

8) Maintain straight hair by using a plastic cap when bathing and wrapping hair when sleeping.

Belle Mélange Salon offers one-on-one consultations, styling demonstrations, and recommended products and tools in their Kurly Kids Crash Course.  For more information on their next class visit their website.
