Recession roots! 5 ways to strech your hair color

"Does this recession make my hair look bad?"

It's the universal cry of women across the country who have been forced to turn to a little concoction in a bottle to battle the roots ... or gasp, even the grey!

Times are tight, budgets even tighter, but there are still ways to reclaim your color from a professional.

Between the foils and blow-dries, Tawni Bare, from Altered Ego Salon and Spa says she's been hearing the stories of women who don't feel like they can justify the repeat trips to the salon.

But, she offers five tips to stretching your color out to keep the cost down and keep the color in.

1. T-Foil or Perimeter Highlights
Many women enjoy a full head of highlights every 6-8 weeks. The cost can vary but is usually well over $100.

But, instead of doing a full head of highlights every 6-8 weeks, choose to highlight the perimeter every other visit.

The perimeter hair includes where you part your hair, the areas that frame your face and the hair that shows when you pull you hair back from your face.

It is also commonly referred to as a T-foil.

This can save on average 30-40 percent of the cost of a full head of highlight.

Ask your stylist if they offer this.

If not, seek out a salon that does to save money and keep your hair looking its best.
