Well you've heard about Botox for ages ... now there is a new product that is coming up on the scene.
It is called
Dysport and the FDA has approved the product for release in the United States.
So what IS Dysport? According to Dr. Ann Watwood from the Derma Health Institute, it is an 'acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent' ... similar to Botox Cosmetic.
It is currently marketed and sold in over 60 countries. Although it's newly available in the U.S. it is still supported by over a decade of clinical experience!
Like Botox, Dysport is an injectable form of botulinum toxin Type A.
Also like Botox, small doses are injected into targeted wrinkle-causing muscles preventing the muscle from contracting and effectively reducing the wrinkle's appearance.
Dysport has similar properties and lasts about as long as Botox (which can be anywhere from four to six months).
Some experts say Dysport is decidedly faster-acting and has a greater 'spread' (giving a more 'natural' look); while Botox tends to remain more localized, allowing for greater precision and predictability in the treatment area, but possibly requiring more injections in the course of a treatment.
Now, before you run out to get your first injection, there are a few potential side effects.
Local numbness, swelling, bruising, a burning sensation during injection, headache, temporary nausea, allergic reaction, and either eyebrow or eyelid droop are all possible side effects.
Still, most complications do not last long and can be avoided with proper injection techniques.
