Need to catch up on those ZZZs but don't have the time? Maybe you're just having a hard time falling or staying asleep.
Whatever the reason ... you don't need to walk around with swollen eyes and blotchie skin. Here are some tips from
Allure magazine, to help you fake a good night's sleep!
1. Puffy/red eyesYou may want to stick to the old tea-bag-on-the-eyes trick. According to Allure, the caffeine constricts blood vessels, the tannins reduce inflammation, and the pressure tamps down the puff.
Now, if you don't want to use the tea bags, a chilled compress, cucumber slices, refrigerated eye gel, or a bag of frozen peas all work the same way.
To get rid of those pink eyelids dab them with a cotton ball soaked in Afrin (yes, the nasal spray!).
The nasal spray is particularly effective with both the redness and the swelling from crying.
Still look pink? Apply a peachy eye shadow base. This will help to get rid of the bruisey tones.
2. Get movingYes, you're tired. But it's time to jump start your body! Try ten jumping jacks, followed by ten breaths ... or yoga.
3. Lifeless skinWhen your skin is looking lifeless (like your body feels!) don't overdo the makeup.
Less foundation is better than more! Use a creamy formula with light-reflecting particles. Apply sparingly with your fingers, so it can really melt into the skin.
Also, add powder to your chin, forehead, and the sides of the nose. A little natural glow on your cheeks and center of your nose looks more natural.
4. Curl your eyelashesAn easy way to wake your eyes up is curling your lashes! Just one simple squeeze at the base of the lashes can help maximize the curve and length of your lashes.
5. Dark circlesTo get rid of those dark circles under your eyes, use a bit of creamy concealer that is slightly lighter than your skin
Concealer, on the other hand, is a sure thing, so start by choosing a creamy formula that is slightly lighter than your skin (but be careful: Go more than one shade lighter, and it can look ghostly). Davis recommends applying it after foundation "since you want to use the bare minimum, and your makeup will have already given you a head start." Cover just the dark areas, not the entire under-eye, and resist the urge to overblend.
6. A smidge of shimmerWhen you're tired, you're usually told to steer clear of the shimmers because it draws attention to the area.
But here's an exception ... put a tiny TINY touch of creamy shimmer right in that little hollow in the inner corners of the eyes and blend it with a Q-tip. It will instantly make you look refreshed.
Tip: use a golden color if you have dark skin, silvery or pearlescent if you're pale.
7. Grab your linerNow it's time for the eye pencil. For lower-lid redness, use your nude-colored pencil, and line the inside rim.
To define your upper lashes, ditch the black liner and go with something softer like charcoal or chocolate brown and push the point into the lash line as you go.
8. Drained? Blush up!If your face is drained be sure to bring the color back!
Use a light layer of bright blush and apply it slightly higher on your face than usual.
9. No red eyes!If your eyes are bloodshot, grab some whitening drops, like Visine, and help get rid of all that red.
Be sure you don't use these drops everyday. They can actually make your eyes more red.
Other tips: A cold shower- it stimulates circulation in your body and can have a toning effect on your face. Moisturize well- your skin may be thirsty! Pretty much any moisture will help you restore the balance.
